Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Corewise, developed and published by OFO Labs, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

The App

Corewise solves heat conduction inside a piece of food in a water bath and reports when its core reaches a temperature you choose and when it is pasteurized according to a published food science model. Everything is computed on your device. It makes no network requests.

What we promise about the physics, and what we do not

We think this belongs in the terms rather than only in the marketing.

Corewise solves one dimensional transient heat conduction with a convective surface, in a slab, a cylinder or a sphere, and integrates pathogen lethality along the core temperature as the cook proceeds. The thermal diffusivities, decimal reduction times and z values follow Douglas Baldwin's published sous vide model, with the United States Department of Agriculture FSIS lethality tables as a second reference. Our test suite checks the engine against the analytic series solution of the heat equation, which it reproduces to four significant figures for all three shapes, and against the published heating and pasteurization tables.

That is a model, and a model is not your kitchen. Real food varies in shape, thickness, fat content and water content. A bag that floats, a bath crowded with other bags, or a pot without a circulator all transfer heat differently from the assumptions the model makes. The app lets you tell it whether the water is moving, but it cannot see your setup.

Corewise is a planning aid. It is not a food safety certification, not medical advice, and not a substitute for a thermometer or for your own judgement. Do not rely on it alone when cooking for anyone who is pregnant, elderly, very young, or immunocompromised. If you are unsure, cook hotter and longer, and check with a probe thermometer.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, OFO Labs accepts no liability for any illness, loss or damage arising from food prepared with the help of this app.

Corewise Complete

Corewise is free to download. Beef, pork and lamb, solved as a slab from a chilled start, are answered in full and permanently, including the pasteurization time, with no usage limit.

Corewise Complete is a single payment that unlocks cylinder and sphere geometry, starts from frozen, the poultry, fish, egg and vegetable profiles, the chill down planner, and saved cooks. It is a one time purchase, not a subscription. There is nothing to cancel and nothing recurring.

Purchases are processed by Apple. Refunds are handled by Apple under the terms of the App Store, not by us.

Intellectual property

The app, its source code, its design and its text are the property of OFO Labs. The physical and microbiological constants it uses are published scientific values and are not claimed by us. No third party tables or datasets are bundled in the app.

Changes to these terms

If these terms change, the updated version will be published on this page with a new date at the top.
