The short version
Rootword collects nothing. It has no account, no analytics, no advertising and no network code of any kind. There is no server to send anything to, because there is no server.
What is stored on your device
- Whether you have completed the one-time introduction.
- The words you have recently looked up, so you can get back to them.
- Your drill results, meaning how many questions you have answered and which word parts you keep getting wrong.
- Whether you have bought Rootword Pro, which Rootword asks Apple about rather than storing itself.
This is kept in the app's own storage on your iPhone. It is included in your encrypted device backup if you use one, and deleting the app deletes it.
What is not collected
Rootword does not collect your name, your email address, your location, your contacts, your device identifiers or how you use the app. It contains no analytics framework, no advertising framework and no tracking of any kind. It does not show you advertisements and it never asks you to create an account.
The words you type into the decoder are handled entirely on your phone. They are not sent anywhere, not logged anywhere off the device, and nobody at OFO Labs can see them.
It does not ask you anything about yourself or about any patient. There is no field in the app that takes a person's details, because the app is a dictionary rather than an assessment.
Network
Rootword makes no network requests. The whole lexicon, every curated term and every abbreviation ship inside the app, so it works with the phone in aeroplane mode, on a hospital wifi that blocks everything, or on an underground train.
Purchases
Rootword Pro is a one-time purchase handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. OFO Labs never sees your payment details. The app asks Apple whether the purchase exists on your Apple Account and stores nothing about it beyond the answer. Restoring a purchase asks Apple the same question again. It sends nothing to OFO Labs.
Children
Rootword is a vocabulary reference and is suitable for all ages. Because it collects nothing at all, it collects nothing from children either.
Medical disclaimer
Rootword is a study reference for the language of medicine, written for students of nursing, medicine, pharmacy, radiography and medical coding. It explains what words mean. It is not a medical device, it does not give medical advice, and it must not be used to make a clinical decision about any person. It makes no assessment of any person and produces no finding about any person.
Your rights
There is no data to request, correct, export or delete, because none was ever collected. Deleting the app removes everything Rootword has ever stored.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new date at the top.
