Please read these Terms of Use carefully before using Boltworks. By downloading or using the app, you agree to these terms.

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Boltworks, developed and published by OFO Labs, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

The App

Boltworks is a single player puzzle game. You take a machine apart: each plate is held down by bolts with different head types, a plate lifts only once every bolt through it is out, and a bolt turns only under the driver that matches its head. It runs entirely on your device.

What We Promise About the Machines

This belongs in the terms rather than only in the marketing, because it is the whole product.

Every machine in Boltworks carries a number we call par: the fewest driver changes that can possibly strip it. Before any machine ships, three things are checked by a solver:

1. The machine can be fully stripped. There is no dead end and no unreachable bolt.
2. The printed par is the true minimum, found by an exhaustive search over the reachable states, not an estimate.
3. Playing that optimal line through the game's own rules earns gold, so the number on the bench tag and the number the game scores you against are the same number.

The Daily Teardown is generated from the calendar date on your own device and is checked by the same solver when it loads.

If you ever find a Boltworks machine that cannot be stripped, or that you finish in fewer driver changes than the par printed on its tag, that is a defect and we want to hear about it. Email ofolabs@gmail.com with the workshop and the machine number.

Your Progress Lives Only on Your Device

Your medals, your Daily Teardown streak and the teardown you are in the middle of stay on your iPhone. We never receive them.

That has a consequence worth understanding: if you delete the app or lose your device, your history is gone, and we cannot recover it for you. We have no copy. Keep iPhone backups enabled if your records matter to you.

Purchases

Boltworks costs nothing to download. Workshop 1 (Bracket) and Workshop 2 (Hinge), 40 machines in total, are open from the first launch, and so is the Daily Teardown, every day, with no limit, no timer and no advertising.

Full Workshop is a single, one time, non consumable in app purchase. It unlocks all 150 machines, which means the Gearbox, Pump and Engine workshops, and the whole Daily Teardown archive. It is not a subscription. It does not renew, it cannot lapse, and there is nothing else in the app to buy. There is no consumable currency, there are no boosters, and no part of the game can be bought a second time.

All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store. Payment is charged to your Apple Account, and Apple's terms govern the transaction. Restoring a purchase on a new device is done through the Restore purchases button on the paywall or in Settings, and it is free.

Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.

Acceptable Use

Boltworks is for personal entertainment. You may not decompile, reverse engineer or attempt to extract the machine data, redistribute the app or any part of it, or use it in any way that breaks the law where you are.

Game Center

The leaderboard is optional. If you use it, Apple's Game Center terms apply to your participation. We may remove obviously fraudulent scores from the leaderboard; we cannot and do not remove anything from your device.

Intellectual Property

Boltworks, its name, its icon, its artwork, its sounds, its machine generator and its solver are the property of OFO Labs. All of the content in the app is created by us: the geometry is built in code, the textures are drawn at runtime, the sounds are synthesized by our own script, and the icon is rendered by our own script. No third party content is included.

No Warranty

Boltworks is provided as is. We do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted or error free. To the maximum extent permitted by law, OFO Labs is not liable for any indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of the app.

Changes to the App and to These Terms

We may update the app, add machines, or change these terms. Continued use after a change means you accept the new terms. We will not take away a machine you have already unlocked with Full Workshop.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Germany, without regard to conflict of law rules.
