The short version

Melodex collects nothing. It has no account, no analytics, no advertising, no tracking and no network code of any kind. Your recordings and the music written from them never leave your iPhone.

The microphone

Melodex asks for microphone access the first time you tap the record button, and never before that. It does not ask at launch, and it does not ask to browse the app.

What you hum is analysed on your device. The pitch tracking, the onset detection, the tempo estimation, the quantization, the key detection and the engraving all run in the app, in your hand. Nothing is sent anywhere for processing, because there is nowhere to send it: the app opens no network connection at all.

If you decline microphone access, Melodex still works. It loads a bundled public domain melody so you can see everything the app does.

What is stored on your device

  • Each take you record: the transcription, its tempo, its key and its notes
  • The waveform shape used to draw the take in your library
  • Your preferences

All of it is held in Melodex's own container in your iPhone's storage. Deleting a take removes it. Deleting the app removes everything.

What we receive

Nothing. We have no server, no database and no log. We cannot see your recordings, your music, how often you open the app, or whether you have opened it at all. This is not a policy choice we could quietly reverse in an update; there is simply no code in the app that talks to a network.

Exports and sharing

When you export a PDF, MusicXML, MIDI or an image, the file is written on your device and handed to iOS's own share sheet. Where it goes from there is your choice and is governed by whichever app you send it to.

Purchases

Melodex offers one optional one-time purchase, Melodex Pro. Purchases are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit. We never see or receive your payment details, and Apple gives us no personal information about you as a purchaser. Apple tells the app only whether the purchase exists.

Analytics and third party code

There is none. Melodex contains no third party software development kits of any kind: no analytics, no advertising, no attribution, no crash reporting. The app is written entirely against Apple's own frameworks.

The one piece of third party content in the app is the Bravura music font by Steinberg Media Technologies, used under the SIL Open Font Licence 1.1 and bundled unmodified with its licence. A font does not collect anything.

Children

Melodex is rated 4+ and collects no data from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If this ever changes, the change will appear here and in the App Store listing before it ships.
