Please read these Terms of Use carefully before using Shuntyard. By downloading or using the app, you agree to these terms.

Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Shuntyard, developed and published by OFO Labs, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

The App

Shuntyard is a sliding block puzzle. Rail cars sit in a tray, each car rolls only along its own axis, and you shunt them aside until the locomotive can leave through the gate. It runs entirely on your device.

What We Promise About the Par Number

We put this in the terms rather than only in the marketing, because it is the whole product.

The number engraved on each yard's brass plate is the minimum number of moves that yard can be cleared in. It is not a designer's estimate and not a typical score. It is produced by an exhaustive breadth-first search over every position the tray can reach, computed before the yard shipped, and re-derived from scratch by an automated test on every build of the app.

A move means one car sliding any distance in one direction. Nudging the same car twice the same way without touching another car counts as one move, so the number you are measured against is the same number the search measured.

If you ever clear a Shuntyard yard in fewer moves than its plate says, that is a defect and we want to hear about it. Email ofolabs@gmail.com with the band and the yard number.

The hint reveals the first move of an optimal line from the position you are actually in. It is computed by the same search that produced the par, so it will never contradict the plate, and it still gives you the shortest remaining route even after you have left the optimal line.

Your Progress Lives On Your Device

Your plates, your best move counts and your Daily Yard streak stay on your iPhone, and are mirrored into your own iCloud key-value storage if you are signed in to iCloud. We never receive them.

That has a consequence worth understanding: if you delete the app, and you are not signed in to iCloud, your record is gone, and we cannot recover it for you. We have no copy.

Purchases

Shuntyard costs nothing to download. The first three bands, one hundred and eighty of the four hundred yards, are open to everyone with no purchase, along with the Daily Yard, every day, and that will stay that way.

Full Yard is a single, one-time purchase. It is not a subscription: it does not renew, it is not billed again, and there is nothing to cancel. It unlocks the remaining two hundred and twenty yards across Marshalling, Hump Yard and Terminus, plus the Daily Yard archive.

The purchase is tied to your Apple Account and can be restored on any device signed in to that account, from the paywall or from Settings. All payments are handled by Apple; we never see your payment details. Refunds are requested from Apple, not from us.

No Advertising, No Currency, No Timers

Shuntyard contains no advertising, no in-game currency, no consumable purchases, no energy meter, no lives and no timers. Undo, reset and the hint are always available on every yard and cost nothing, before or after any purchase.

Game Center

Game Center is optional. The leaderboard ranks total gold plates. If you decline Game Center, nothing in the game is withheld from you. Apple's own terms govern Game Center itself.

Acceptable Use

Do not attempt to reverse engineer, decompile or modify the app except to the extent that applicable law expressly permits it. Do not redistribute the app or its content.

Intellectual Property

Shuntyard, its name, its artwork, its sound, its level pack and its solver are the property of OFO Labs. Everything in the app is our own work: the yards are generated by our solver, the sound is synthesized by our own script, and the artwork is drawn in code or rendered by us. No third party assets are included.

Disclaimer

Shuntyard is provided as is, without warranty of any kind. It is a puzzle game and nothing in it is advice of any sort. To the fullest extent permitted by law, OFO Labs is not liable for any indirect or consequential damages arising from your use of the app.

Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms. The current version always lives at this address with its date. Continuing to use the app after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by the laws of Germany, without regard to conflict of law principles.
