About
A sliding block puzzle set in a machined wooden rail yard. Each car rolls only along its own axis, and you shunt them aside until the locomotive can roll out through the brass gate. What makes Shuntyard different is the brass plate engraved into every tray. It carries that yard's par: the exact fewest moves the yard can be cleared in. That number is not a designer's estimate and not a typical score. It is produced by an exhaustive search over every position the tray can reach, computed before the yard shipped and re-derived from scratch by an automated test on every build, so the app can tell you what a perfect line costs before you make a single move. Match it and the plate turns gold. Two moves over is silver. Four hundred yards run across six bands, from four move sidings to seven by seven terminus boards that take more than forty, and the bands are ordered by proven difficulty rather than by how crowded the tray looks. A fresh Daily Yard is cut on your own device every calendar date, with a streak that counts the days you cleared it. There are no timers, no lives, no energy, no currency and no adverts, and undo, reset and the hint are free on every yard, always. The hint gives you the next move of an optimal line and never the whole solution, and it still works after you have wandered off that line.
