Tallytown teaches the 144 multiplication facts, from 1 x 1 to 12 x 12, and turns every fact a child learns into something they can see. 7 x 8 is seven stacks of eight bricks, so its building is a hall seven bricks wide and eight bricks tall; 6 x 6 is a square tower and 1 x 12 is a lighthouse. Each times table is a street, and when every fact is learned the whole town stands. A round is about fifteen facts with a big number pad and no countdown. A wrong or slow answer never shows a red cross: the bricks split into two easier parts instead, 7 x 8 becomes 5 x 8 and 2 x 8, and the child adds them up. Tallytown follows each of the 144 facts on its own: two quick right answers in a row finish a building, quick answers spread over several days give it a gold flag, shaky facts come back sooner and solid ones fade back in after days or weeks. Tables arrive in a teaching order, twos, tens and fives first. A grown-ups corner behind an adult check shows the facts that need practice, how long each takes to answer and the minutes practised this week, with up to four builders on one iPhone. The facts with a factor of 2, 5 or 10 and their 33 buildings are open without buying anything; Whole Town, one optional purchase, adds every other fact, division practice and more builders.
