About
Pawnhop teaches children chess one piece at a time. Every piece is first its own small game on a wooden board sized for small fingers: Pawn Wars, where only pawns play and the first to reach the other side wins; Rook Maze, collecting stars in straight lines; Knight Hops, jumping in an L over hedges to a flag; Bishop Diagonals; Queen Sweep; and King Escape, stepping out of check and delivering a first checkmate. Six chapters hold 90 puzzles, and every one is checked by a solver so the goal it shows is always exactly possible. When Pawn Wars is finished the full board opens with every piece in place, and the child plays real games against eight animal friends, from Pip the mouse to Bruno the bear, each measured in a tournament to be clearly stronger than the one before. After a game, Coach Hop finds the one moment that mattered and explains it in a sentence with arrows on the board. Up to four children share one iPhone, and a grown-ups corner behind an adult check shows each child's chapters, stars and games. Pawn Wars, Rook Maze and the first two opponents are open without buying anything; All Chapters, one optional purchase, adds the other four chapters, six opponents and the coach.
