Choose a photo and Stitchplot turns it into a chart you can actually stitch: a grid of squares, each matched to a real thread colour, each given its own symbol, with the stitch count and skein estimate worked out for you. The part that decides whether a chart is any good is the colour matching, and Stitchplot does it perceptually, in CIELAB using the CIEDE2000 formula, rather than by comparing raw screen values the way simpler tools do. That difference shows up exactly where cross stitch is most demanding: on faces and near-neutrals, where naive matching swaps a skin tone for a grey that is numerically close and visibly wrong. It also cleans up after itself. Colours that would have covered only a handful of squares are merged into their nearest neighbour, because a line on a shopping list calling for seventeen scattered stitches costs you a skein and a trip for something nobody will ever see. The chart opens fitted to the screen so you can see what you are making, zooms in to working magnification with symbols, and lets you tick off blocks as you go, which is how the work actually gets done. Your photo is read on your iPhone and never uploaded. There is no account, no server, no advertising and no tracking, and it works in aeroplane mode.
